Andy Leidolf appointed as SFS Executive Director

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Andy Leidolf as the first Executive Director for SFS. Andy will be responsible for many of the behind-the-scenes tasks that keep our Society alive, including working with committees, recruiting members and developing sponsorship for annual meetings.

Andy is currently the Assistant Director and Project Administrator for iUTAH (innovative Urban Transitions and Aridregion Hydro-sustainability), Utah’s EPSCoR Track 1 Research Infrastructure Improvement Award. This 5-year, $20M cooperative agreement with the National Science Foundation is aimed at building statewide collaborative and multi-institutional capacity to conduct cutting-edge research on water sustainability and other critical environmental issues, while simultaneously training an inclusive and diverse next-generation STEM workforce for the state of Utah and the nation. Andy was selected to participate in the inaugural cohort of the American Association for the Advancement of Science's (AAAS) Community Engagement Fellowship Program (CEFP) funded by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.

Andy’s research and scholarly interests include natural resource use, management, and sustainability; disturbance ecology, including both natural and anthropogenic disturbance; and avian ecology and conservation. He is also passionate about teaching, particularly to non-scientific learners, and is a keen follower of politics and policy, particularly where science and natural resource issues are concerned.
