Publication Agreement Form

A manuscript submitted for publication in this journal will not have been previously published and will not be simultaneously submitted for publication elsewhere. By submitting a manuscript, an author agrees that the copyright to that article will be transferred to the Society for Freshwater Science (SFS), if and when the article is accepted for publication. Assignment of copyright is not required from an author who is employed by a government organization that does not permit such agreements. The copyright covers the exclusive right to reproduce and distribute the article in all forms, including, but not limited to, translations, photographic reproductions, microfilm, electronic form, or other reproductions of similar nature.

No part of this publication may be reproduced, stored in a retrieval system, or transmitted, in any form or by any means, electronic, mechanical, photocopying, scanning, or otherwise, except as described below, without permission in writing from the Editor. Copying of articles is not permitted except for personal and internal use, to the extent permitted by Section 107 or 108 of the US Copyright Act. Requests for permission for other kinds of copying, such as copying for general distribution, for advertising or promotional purposes, for creating new collective works or for resale, and all other inquiries, should be directed to the Editor.

An author may make an article published by SFS available on a personal web page without requesting permission. The source of the article must be cited, and SFS must be identified as the copyright owner. In addition, an author may photocopy an article for limited public distribution. The photocopied article must include the original copyright notice as it appeared in the Journal. Written permission must be obtained from the Editor for all other uses.

Permission for Using Copyrighted Material Published in the Journal of the North American Benthological Society / Freshwater Science

Copyrighted material published in the Journal of the North American Benthological Society or in Freshwater Science, for example articles, data, figures, and tables, may be reprinted for the non-commercial purposes of education or the advancement of science without requesting permission. However, for all other uses (promotional or commercial purposes), permission must be requested from the Editor. Requests for permission to use copyrighted material must be in writing or through e-mail and should be addressed to the Editor. When submitting a request, please include the following information:

  • The title, author(s), and page number(s) of the article you wish to reproduce, or in the case where you do not wish to duplicate the complete article, details of which page, section, figure, or table
  • The journal volume/issue number and year of publication in which the article was published
  • The publication title, date of publication, and publisher of the publication in which you wish to reprint the journal material
  • Contact information, including name, address, and phone number

Following submission, your request will be reviewed, and you will be notified by email. Should permission be granted, we require that all copyrighted material, whether electronic or in print, shall be properly acknowledged as follows:
